Amazon.com Product Description

The BA II Plus Professional calculator features all the great features of its predecessor while packing in even more time-saving functions to make short work of complex equations. It's an ideal choice for entry level and advanced finance, accounting, economics, investment, statistics, and other business classes. It's also a great choice to bring to the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) exam. Along with the standard capabilities of time-value-of-money, accrued interest, amortization, cost-sell-margin, and depreciation calculations, users can calculate more advanced business and finance related issues. It will handle net future value (NFV), modified internal rate of return (MIRR), modified duration, payback, discount payback, and more. Its rugged metal exterior, firm-touch keypad and anti-slip rubber feet make it ideal for anyone in accounting, economics, investing, statistics, and related businesses. It also comes with a black protective case.

Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional Financial Calculator Customer Reviews

2 out of 5 stars "Poor construction" 2010-08-31
By apa123
Bought a couple of these based on 1) positive reviews, 2) it being CFA approved, and 3) my love of the TI89.

As far as functionality, the calculator does everything it is supposed to do. It does not have a hard cover, but this i knew beforehand. What I did not expect was the shoddy construction of the keys. The keyboard is brutally bad. If you like typing in numbers without having to double check if in fact the number was key'd in (even if the key clicked), then i would suggest you get another calculator. In fact, just get the non-professional version. Only .09% of financial calculator users need the extra functionality.

4 out of 5 stars "No protective layer" 2010-08-29

It is good and Amazon's service is quite nice. Compared with other calculators, this one has no protective layer.

3 out of 5 stars "Slow Input - nightmare for fast fingers" 2010-08-23
By gemini_shooter (India)
This is a decent calculator, however has serious input flaws. The system cannot register fast inputs, so if you are a user who uses your calculator with both hands, THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT FOR YOU. It is unable to register numbers at such speeds. So the trick is to slow down the entry, use only one hand to input numbers. I have been using TI calculators since college and never had this problem before. Also, it has an extremely thin cover that doesn't protect the keys and the look feels very cheap. Otherwise it is OK.

5 out of 5 stars "Great calculator, could use a better case" 2010-08-18
By Wes
I upgraded from the BA II Plus that was about 10 years old, this calculator is excellent. It has all the functions I need and feels nice when using it as well.

The only downside is that it comes with a soft case. There's a "cheat sheet" card that comes with it that's very useful, but I find it difficult to put in the case with the calculator and don't feel the case really protects it. TI used to put a hard slide cover on their calculators and I wish they had done that with this one as well.

3 out of 5 stars "the buttons are ultra-annoying" 2010-08-18
By bellygrub
I got this calculator because, well, it's one of the two *required* in order to take the CFA exam. I'd imagine most people reading this are aware of that.

The buttons, ugh, obnoxious. They're small, and you have to apply enough pressure in order to get the digit to register, so every time you punch in a number you have to look up to make sure it went through. For working fast this downright SUX.

Secondly, you always have to press the negative button AFTER you type the number... if you type it before, you won't get the change in sign.

Other than those irritating items this calculator does the trick for the CFA, and consensus is that the HP alternative has just as many quirks or more. I'd never get either of them for actual finance work. Instead, I'd get a graphing calculator, which has all the options; is cheaper; you can see prior work; create your own functions, text, etc.
