Replacing the eZip battery?

Most people use the SLA until it's at end of life, then wire up a 24v or 36v Li* battery pack, stuff it in a knapsack or whatever and strap it to the rear rack. Not a whole lot to it though the batts will cost more than the whole eZip package.
If you know you want to go lithium you might want to just buy a kit for your existing good-quality bike.
