What's in the Box Makita 8444DWDE 1/2-Inch 18-Volt NiMH Cordless Hammer Drill/Driver Kit Customer Reviews1 out of 5 stars 2009-04-18By Robert Monk (Philly, PA) My drill had high initial quality, but the batteries died in less than a year of LIGHT use. Light, but not so light that under-use should have caused them any damage. For example, I have used a Dewalt drill that remains strong even after spending most of its life sitting in the bottom of my van for 6 months at a time, unused. Both my Makita batteries are worthless, and I used the drill maybe a couple times a month, for short-duty jobs, during its first year. Unfortunately, I didn't realize the problem is defective batteries until after the warranty period was over. I'm going to see what Makita will do for me, and I will change this review to favorable if I get results. 5 out of 5 stars 2006-02-19 By Darrell L. Peak Jr. (Baton Rouge, LA.) After using a Dewalt 18 xrp for the last 2 years, I bought this drill after the dewalt "walked" off on a job. I have really been surprised with this drills performance, it is stronger than my dewalt and the batteries last quiet a bit longer. The makita has performed flawlessly for me the first 6 months now and has exceeded my expectations which was to be at least as good as my old trusty dewalt. This is a professional grade tool! 5 out of 5 stars 2005-09-18 By Sid Sutherland (Brush Prairie, WA) The makita 18 volt hammer drill is the best drill you can buy. I am an electrical contractor and have bought many of the yellow ones and the red ones but after using them every working day for 8 years we have our opinions. The battrey life is twice as long. It has more power. It is constucted better than the others and when its operating it doesn't feel like its going to fall apart. Makita started the cordless craze and their batteries used to last 7 years and cost only Now some batteries last 2 years and cost to replace! One test is worth a thousand expert opinions so go for it.
